Are You Prepared For Nature's Wrath?

Life brings many "tests". Nature contributes to these "tests". Recently, nature has been on a rampage. Brush fires on the west coast, tornadoes in the midwest, and hurricanes on the gulf coast to name a few.With this type of ongoing natural activity, are you prepared? First, think about what type of natural turmoil can happen in your area. For example, if you are in Ohio, are tornadoes possible? You bet thay are. Are floods possible in New York? If you are near a river, they are. Next, set up a plan of action. Will you have any amount of warning? If so, where do you go or what do you do to get out of harm's way? Do you need certain supplies? What are they? MAKE A LIST! Now, fill the list - get what you need. After the disaster, what do you do? Will you be allowed to return home immediately? If not, what will you do? Do you have your insurance paid up? Where are your insurance papers? Do I have your attention? Are you thinking? Why am I writing this article? Simple, we were hit by Hurricane Ike 6 months ago. We thought we were prepared. Guess what - NO, WE WERE NOT! After the storm, we were not allowed to go home for 2 weeks, and then, only to check on the damage. No services were available so another month went by before we could actually live in our home. Yes, we had every type of insurance necessary. BUT, it's 6 months after the disaster and we are still fighting with our insurance companies. Are you prepared for a long fight?
That is the part we were not prepared for. In summary, Prepare yourself for natral disasters. Think, plan, prepare. After the disaster, you will need another plan. Where can you get assistance? Look at every conceivable source. Be ready to fight for your rights with insurance companies. My best advice, line up a lawyer who handles disaster recovery. That's the one you go to when working through channels doesn't work.
